But soon Luke Skywalker came to Kyp Durron with news that the work of a Jedi Knight was called for. Apparently, on the remote, uninhabited planet of Corbos, a mining colony sent a distress signal to the New Republic, but the reason for the signal was unknown, and no signals followed it. In actuality, what had happened to the colony was that during an excavation, the blasting awoke a sleeping beast, a Leviathan. Once awoke, the Leviathan attacked the colony and the miners, destroying things with a vengeance and trapping the miners essence inside its reptilian body.

Leia Organa-Solo, Jedi Knight and Chief of State, asked her brother, Luke, to send the Jedi to investigate Corbos and discover the cause of the distress signal. Luke chose Kyp Durron to travel to Corbos, but Kyp insisted that his newfound friend, Dorsk 82 go with him. During the hyperspace journey there, Dorsk 82 expressed his doubts about his abilities to become a Jedi, and Kyp allayed those fears with tales of Dorsk 81's training to become a Jedi Knight, the many missions he and Kyp went on, as well as his heroic defense of the Jedi Academy, in which he sacrificed himself to protect the other Knights.

Once arriving on Corbos, Kyp could immediately feel the trapped essence of the miners. Setting down their ship, Dorsk 82 and Kyp began to explore the destroyed camp. Making their way to the miners quarters, Dorsk 82 and Kyp learned about the colonists, all the while the nagging presence of lost souls at Kyp's mind. With a storm raging over the terrain of Corbos, Kyp and Dorsk resolved to spend the night in the quarters, and resume their search for the daylight hours. However, Kyp's mind could not rest, and while Dorsk 82 lay sleeping, Kyp ventured out to search for whatever was out there. Waking to find Kyp gone, Dorsk 82 let his fears get the best of him and he made his way back to the ship to send a message back to the Jedi Academy, requesting help.

Dorsk 82's signal reached Yavin IV just about the time Kyp Durron encountered the Leviathan of Corbos, and once having received the signal, Jedi Knights Kirana Ti and Streen set out for Corbos to help Dorsk 82 and Kyp. Dorsk 82 was there to greet Kirana and Streen when they arrived to Corbos, and together set out to find him. Unfortunately, the storm raging on Corbos made it difficult to track Kyp down, and instead the Jedi discovered evidence of a huge beast around the mining grounds and followed their senses into a cave, only to find the nesting grounds of the beast that attacked the colony, and were attacked themselves when larvae burst from their egg husks and attacked the Jedi. Dorsk, Kirana, and Streen barely escaped, and left the caves to find Kyp standing over the dead body of a huge beast, obviously the beast that destroyed the mining colony.
